About the Role
This is not a traditional in-house payroll role. You will support multiple clients, each with different payroll systems, timelines, and structures.
We are looking for someone who can step in, take ownership of payroll execution, and operate independently without heavy oversight.
Key Responsibilities
• Process payroll for multiple clients across various platforms (ADP, Proliant, Gusto, Paychex, etc.)
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll execution, including off-cycle and final pay
• Review payroll for accuracy (variance checks, reconciliations, net pay validation)
• Manage payroll adjustments, retro pay, and corrections
• Handle payroll-related tax filings and support (in coordination with systems/vendors)
• Support multi-state payroll compliance and flag risks or issues
• Partner with HR to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee questions
• Assist with year-end processes (W-2s, 1099s) and other compliance-related activities
• Support payroll system setup, transitions, or cleanup projects as needed
• Maintain strong organization and documentation across multiple clients
Required Experience
• Hands-on payroll processing experience (not just oversight)
• Experience managing payroll for multiple entities or clients
• Multi-state payroll experience
• Ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines at once
• Experience with one or more payroll systems (ADP, Gusto, Paychex, Proliant, etc.)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Nice to Have
• Experience in a consulting, PEO, or multi-client environment
• Experience with payroll system implementations or cleanups
Work Structure
• Part-time, fractional role (hours vary week to week)
• Heavier workload during payroll cycles and year-end
• Flexible schedule, but must meet payroll deadlines
• Fully remote
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
