About the Role
JPA Health is seeking a Controller to lead and strengthen our accounting operations as we continue to grow as a mission-driven healthcare communications and advisory firm.
This role combines operational excellence with strategic partnership. You will oversee day-to-day accounting while building the systems, controls, and reporting frameworks that enable sound financial management and scalable growth. You will partner closely with the CFO and agency leadership to ensure financial clarity, discipline, and insight across the business.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who values precision, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and bank reconciliations
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Maintain revenue recognition processes in accordance with GAAP
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Produce internal financial statements and management reports
- Maintain documented accounting policies and internal controls
- Support and manage the annual audit process
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Oversee technical accounting matters including lease accounting
Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Provide financial analysis to support pricing, resource planning, and operational decisions
- Develop reporting and benchmarking tools to improve visibility into business performance
Systems and Process Improvement
- Lead enhancements to accounting systems and financial workflows
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen operational efficiency
- Support scalable infrastructure as the agency grows domestically and internationally
Team Leadership and Partnership
- Manage and mentor accounting team members
- Foster a collaborative, accountable finance function
- Partner with Operations and Practice Leadership to align financial performance with business goals
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- 8 to 12 or more years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a communications agency environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles
- Experience leading monthly close, audit processes, and budgeting cycles
- Demonstrated ability to implement and improve financial controls and systems
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and solutions-oriented
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving organization
- Strong communicator who can translate financial information into clear business insight
- CPA preferred
- NetSuite experience a plus
