CalTPA Assessor Experience Qualifications:
Pearson offers compensation packages that reward exceptional quality and productivity. Scoring is generally compensated at a base rate of $25 per hour scoring, with training paid at $19 per hour. Milestone pay increases of $0.40 per hour are earned for every 400 hours paid.
To be eligible to score the California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA), an applicant MUST meet both of the following requirements.
Requirement #1Be a current (or retired within 3 years) California education professional in one (1) or more of the following capacities: College, University, and/or LEA:
• District/University/ program educator providing instruction to MS or PK-3 teacher candidates within a CTC-accredited teacher preparation program
• Field supervisor (in a MS or PK-3 setting)
• Cooperating Teacher or Mentor (in MS or PK-3 setting)
PK-12 Setting:
• TK–12 Teacher
• TK–12 Administrator (e.g., principal, assistant principal)
• Instructional Coach or Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in TK-12
Requirement #2
Required:
• Hold a valid California Clear Multiple Subject or PK-3 Teaching Credential
AND have additional expertise in one (1) of the following ways:
• Hold a Bilingual Authorization
• Have completed (and have documentation of) professional learning of a structured literacy program
• Non-exhaustive examples are: LETRS, Orton Gillingham, SIPPS, CORE, Institute of Multi-Sensory Education, 95% Group, Wilsons, S.P.I.R.E., CRLP Results, etc.
• Have university experience teaching coursework in literacy within the last 5 years
• Hold a degree or graduate certificate in literacy
• Reading or literacy researcher with relevant recent teaching experience
• Reading and Literacy Added Authorization or Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential
• National Board-Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts- Early and Middle Childhood
Requirement #3
• Maintain the confidentiality of the assessment materials and knowledge gained as a result of participating in scoring the assessment, and will not share information with anyone (e.g., candidates, colleagues, etc.) without direct permission from the Commission and Pearson.
• Agree not to participate in any professional activity, beyond employment in a TK–12 school/district/county office or institution that requires candidates to use a CA-approved performance assessment, that results in payment for services related to supporting candidates in completing any CA-approved performance assessment. For example, TPA independent tutoring or consulting positions.
Requirement #4
• Reside in the state of California.
In order to score candidate submissions, assessors must complete the requisite training and meet the established calibration standards. Assessors will be paid for time spent in training, calibration, and scoring submissions.
Qualification Verification:
To verify employment, the application requests your supervisor contact information and TK-12 teaching credential details (if applicable). This information will be used for verification purposes only.
CalTPA Assessor Expectations:
• Scoring activities are remote and assessors are expected to provide the working environment and equipment needed to complete the scoring activities (e.g., published minimum CPU and monitor recommendations).
• Assessors must meet minimum requirement for home computing hardware, monitor, and bandwidth provided by their internet service provider.
• For security reasons, assessors may not use shared office computers or work from institutional computer labs.
• All CalTPA new hires will be required to attend a two-day training session. Sessions are typically offered in February/March of each year and based on scoring requirements, may also be offered in the fall. After training and calibration is complete, assessors must be committed to scoring a minimum of four (4) submissions per week. Scoring is expected to take 1-1.5 hours per submission scored for experienced assessors.
• Scoring will be available seven days per week, except for outages/system maintenance or Pearson corporate holidays.
• Assessors participate in regular activities to ensure calibration to the rubrics.
• Assessors will be assigned to content areas and disciplines in which they have a current credential and experience.
Additional Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree or higher (If you received your degree outside of the United States, a Foreign Equivalency Report is required stating that you have an equivalent of at least 4-year degree in the United States. It is your responsibility to obtain this report. You may email your report to HR if you receive an offer of employment).
• U. S. citizenship, resident alien status or authorized to work in the U.S.
• U.S. residency
• All scoring and other work activities must be completed in the United States
• Meet the minimum qualifications as listed above
