Job Description:
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two-year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina: Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Georgetown.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College is seeking a full-time Sociology instructor. This position will report to the Chair of the Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Human Services Department in the School of Arts and Sciences.
The instructor hired will be responsible, in part, for the following duties.
Preparing detailed and engaging lessons for both face-to-face and online instruction
Developing course syllabi, goals, and objectives
Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
Assessing students’ learning and adjusting instruction accordingly
Developing and implementing plans to improve student success
Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences
Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students
Providing academic advisement to students
Teaching at various campus locations, as needed
Serving on committees, which help the college, faculty, staff, and students
To be considered for the position, an applicant must have either a Master’s degree in Sociology or a Master’s degree in another field of study and no fewer than 18 hours in Graduate-level (Master’s, Ph.D.) Sociology classes. Because HGTC has three main campuses and other remote-teaching locations, an applicant must be willing to travel, if needed, to different locations.

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in Sociology or a Master’s degree in another field of study and no fewer than 18 hours in Graduate-level (Master’s, Ph.D.) Sociology classes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience preferred.
