Remote Full-time
Freelance Copyeditor (Music Education) - Remote • Application deadline: November 21, 2025 at 11:59 PM PDT • Start date: ASAP • Location: Remote (US-based preferred) • Compensation: USD $30/hr • Role type: 1099, independent contractor • Hours: 5-15 hours per week to start, with potential to grow About Pickup Music Pickup Music is a leading music education company based in Los Angeles that has been growing steadily since 2016. We are the leaders in structured, long-form learning with over 30,000 members for guitar, bass, and (soon) piano. About the role We’re looking for a skilled copyeditor with a music background (preferably piano) to help elevate and refine the written copy for our lessons. You’ll work closely with our writing team to improve lesson content, provide editorial direction, verify the accuracy of music theory explanations, and enhance the overall learning experience for our members. You’ll play a key role in ensuring every Pickup Music lesson is clear, concise, and engaging (whether it’s for guitar, bass, or piano). If you’re also a strong writer who can jump in to write lessons yourself when needed, even better. The best editors are great writers first. A note on the use of AI: At Pickup, we encourage the use of modern tools to enhance your work and speed up your process. That said, you’re ultimately responsible for creating natural, human copy that feels authentic and never reads like it was generated by a machine. You’re the right person for the job if: • You’re a skilled musician with a solid understanding of music theory (at least intermediate level). • You’re an excellent editor who can coach writers to elevate their work (and write great lessons yourself when needed). • You can confidently cover piano, bass, and guitar lessons (piano expertise is a big plus). • You have an eye for lean, purposeful copy that supports learning. This isn’t textbook-style writing. Our copy provides snappy, learner-focused guidance that complements video lessons and interactive TAB/notation. • You have an exceptional command of US English and write at a native level. How to apply Apply below with the following: • A cover letter with a few short paragraphs explaining who you are, why you’re a great fit for this role, your approach to editing, and any relevant experience • Your resume or portfolio • A few examples of your writing or editing work (preferably related to music)
